2009 Annual Meeting

The 2009 Annual Meeting was a huge success. We were fortunate to be hosted by Weinblatt & Gaylord, Attorneys at Law in the beautiful "Boulevard Room" at the Kellogg Square Building in Downtown St. Paul. A delicious spread of food was provided by Cathy Hauser of Amore Coffee, and Suzanne Weinstein of Coastal Seafoods. Wine was donated by Jeff Huff of The Little Wine Shoppe. Thank you Cathy, Suzanne and Jeff!

Electric Fetus starts a buy local program featuring local artists

From the Feb 21 Star Tribune:

"The Electric Fetus music store cranks the volume on a campaign to get Minnesotans to keep dollars local."

"The 225 local music fans who turned out to see a three-band spree on Thursday night at the Electric Fetus may have been there for the intimate feel of a mini-concert, but retail music manager Bob Fuchs hopes he's onto something even bigger.

Welcome Mary Hamel, new Executive Director

Mary HamelThe Board of Directors is proud to announce the hiring of our new Executive Director: Mary Hamel. In 1995, Mary opened the May Day Cafe of Minneapolis and continued as a co-owner until 1998. May Day provides coffee and baked goods to Powderhorn residents to this day. More recently, Mary worked for the St. Anthony Park District Council as a fundraiser. She volunteers with Open Arms of Minnesota (as pictured here) and the St. Anthony Park elementary school.

We're confident that Mary's experience building an independent business from the ground up and her enthusiasm for building strong relationships will provide the boost we need. Mary will focus first on building our membership to amplify the voice of independent businesses and on involving you, our members and supporters, in making us more effective at providing services to members. We welcome her to the organization.

"Making your business greener" workshop wrap-up

Thanks again to everyone who participated in our first MetroIBA Teach-In last night!  We had a great audience and I hope you'll agree with me that our panelists were wonderful.  I think we all learned a lot.
