November *Afternoon* Networking Event
Please join us on Tuesday, Nov. 3 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. for a very special MetroIBA event. Micawber’s Bookstore, 2238 Carter Ave. (just off Como Avenue in the St. Anthony Park neighborhood) will host, along with fellow IBA members and neighbors, The Little Wine Shoppe and Bungalow Pottery. It's a great opportunity to see members sharing their talents and working together. MetroIBA members will receive a 10% off discount at the Micawber's networking event. We hope to get an excellent turnout for this gathering in a landmark independent bookstore.
Nov. 3 is election day, so don’t forget to vote before or after you come!
Spotlight On A Business
Mosaic On A Stick
Mosaic On A Stick opened in 2004, fueled by a love of mosaics and a passion for community! On Saturday, Nov. 7, from 10-6 come in and celebrate the Stick's 5th birthday with a free make-and-take project. Make a glass ornament/suncatcher, view the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Art Show, and have a mosaic on a stick cookie!
Mosaic On A Stick, located at 595 N. Snelling Ave. in St. Paul is open Tuesday through Saturday. Owned by mosaic artist Lori Greene the shop sells supplies, conducts classes and parties and will do commissioned work as well.
Lori recently completed a beautiful mosaic project at the entrance of another MetroIBA member, Seward Co-op.

MetroIBA is now on Facebook and Twitter
Interact with MetroIBA online and keep in touch with news, links, articles, and even more networking. Become a fan of MetroIBA on Facebook. And you can now follow us on Twitter at twitter.com/metroiba or simply search for @metroiba. Follow MetroIBA and we'll follow you and retweet your postings!
Our goal is to make our Facebook and Twitter activity meaningful and useful.
Join MetroIBA Board of Directors
Are you passionate about locally owned, independent businesses? Have you been looking for a way to be more involved? MetroIBA is currently seeking candidates for our Board of Directors. Candidates must be current business members of MetroIBA and be willing to attend monthly board meetings and participate in committee work.
For more information, contact board president, Nancy Breymeier, at 651-224-3200.
Buy Local Poster Campaign
Have you seen our posters up at your local kiosk or coffee shop? For every dollar spent at a locally owned business, approximately 68 cents stays in the community, whereas only 43 cents stays local when spent at a national chain store. We think it is important for the public (and elected officials) to know that, so we've been hanging 11"x17" Buy Local posters all around town. Let us know if you see one or want one to display at your business.
In The News
Congratulations to MetroIBA member, Carter Avenue Frame Shop for making Minnesota Monthly's Best of the Twin Cities Honor for Best Frame Shop. Carter Avenue Frame Shop is located at 2186 Como Ave. in the St. Anthony Park neighborhood of St. Paul. For more information call 651-645-7862 or visit www.carteravenueframeshop.com
Join Our Member Discuss
One of the many benefits of being a MetroIBA member is access to our member listserv. This is an e-mail forum not open to the public, so it is a great place to voice concerns, ideas and advertise specials. Please go to www.metroiba.org and click on "Join our member discussion."
Your Timely Renewal Helps Us
Please respond promptly when you receive your MetroIBA renewal notice. Having to send out multiple reminders costs the organization time and money, which we would much rather spend on lobbying for you! If you are unsure of your status or renewal date, call Executive Director Mary Hamel at 651-387-0738 or e-mail mary@metroiba.org.
