Policy Agenda 2010
In the first week of February, Minnesota's political parties will hold their caucuses to start the process of setting the agenda for politics in 2010.
A week later, the Metro Independent Business Alliance will hold the only caucus where your voice - the voice of the local economy - sets the agenda. The local business policy caucus on February 9, 2010 is where MetroIBA members will set the policy agenda for the Alliance, establishing which issues and concerns on which we focus the voice of independent, local businesses.

One of MetroIBA's three key goals is "to improve conditions for local independents by influencing public policy." The organization has done this in a number of instances, from weighing in on zoning issues along Grand Avenue to supporting the Minnesota Health Plan at the state legislature.
How do we choose what policy issues or positions to take on? Ultimately, the Board of Directors decides. We'd like to improve this process starting in 2010 by asking MetroIBA members to take the lead. Our goal is to establish a clear and concrete policy agenda based on your ideas and prioritized by you and your fellow members at the February 9 policy caucus.
The caucus event will include:
- Optional: Educational sessions on ...
- The Minnesota Health Plan: a proposed solution for health care cost and coverage issues
- Local-oriented development rules: success stories from Austin, TX and elsewhere
- Brainstorming and small group discussion
- Dinner
- Priotizing the most promising ideas to become the 2010 policy agenda
All MetroIBA members - business, non-profit or citizen - are invited to attend and participate in decisionmaking. Owners/representatives from non-member businesses are welcome to attend and share ideas but may not participate in deciding on the 2010 agenda without first joining the Alliance.
